This is the right side of the map from the US point-of-view, early in the game. That curtain at the back of the terrain separates us from the German map, and the "German" player, on the other half of the game table. In double-blind you play with two maps that have identical terrain - though what is placed on the map is limited based on what your units can see and report to you. The gamemaster (George, in this case) stands at the curtain (like a volleyball referee), informing either side when they can see enemy forces, as well as resolving core combat events in the game.

I am pointing out likely enemy positions to Jon who is playing on my side. Those two chits to the right, in front of the trees, are enemy foxholes we have just spotted. We can also now see some German troops in the trees lining that road moving forward to occupy those trenches. If you look at the German set-up you will also see that the large building prominent here is occupied by a full squad of troops - they haven't opened up on us just yet.

When we spotted the various trenches and fortifications we had to alter our attack plan.
