Indies Unite
Toronto Independent Game Conference -
Sept 2006
By Tim Carter (28 Sept 2006)
The first (or was it second) TIGC was a really nice little
event. Kicked it off with a presentation on serious games - both
in general and in Canada - and I hope I stimulated something.
Whatever... It was small - and in a good way. People would comment
midway through a presentation (who says that Canadians are
stiflingly polite?). There was a tingly feeling - like being on
the cusp of something. The smallness, the intimacy of the event
let out the passion. We had fun, and we all got to know each
other. As "softwaremurphy" said on the Toronto IGDA site
here...
I just got
back from the conference and it was amazing. I found every
presenter had something useful to offer, from Tim Carter's
expansion of my definition of the word game, to Tommy
Tallarico's speech on audio contracts which could easily apply
to indie designer contracts, to Julian Spillane's cool demos of
various shading techniques; there was never more fun or interest
to be had in a class.
I would like to thank Chris and Julian for putting together
this event. Great job to all on the committee!
(Ummm... Yes, I agree!)
Got very favorable feedback from some folks about my powerpoint
presentation. If you want a copy of it,
email me (it's kind of big: 12mb).
There are links to more after-show feedback at the TIGC's site
